 The Classic Ale

My club had set the subject of a forthcoming competition as “Advertising” and as usual I had found nothing that fitted that subject worth printing. Returning from a business meeting in London a few days later and running through Waterloo station to catch an about to depart train I caught sight of this advertising promotion. Fortunately I carried a 35mm compact that was quickly brought into use and the last two frames of the film fired on the hoof. This is an enlargement of about 25% of a frame – my decisive moment.

I managed to catch the train.

The unimpressed competition judge’s only comment was that I should have removed the cup on the floor before taking the shot!

I can’t remember the technicals but guess that the film would have been Ilford 400 iso and, judging by the grain, it looks like I developed it in Rodinal.
